Experience a New Elevated Japanese Concept
WASHINGTON D.C. — The Rhythm & Eats team introduces KATSUMI, a new Japanese restaurant opening tomorrow in the heart of Logan Circle. The space is intimate and atmospheric, defined by soft lighting, subtle neon and thoughtfully curated Japanese-inspired artwork. KATSUMI focuses on high-quality sushi and shareable dishes served in a vibrant, composed setting. The restaurant is led by Michelin-starred chef Masaaki “Uchi” Uchino, with 2025 James Beard Semifinalist Andra “AJ” Johnson overseeing the dining experience as General Manager.

The KATSUMI menu draws from familiar Japanese dishes, shaped with modern, traditional and unexpected touches. Maki Roll selections include a Sour Cream & Onion Crunch Roll with Imperial Osetra caviar, black porgy and potato crunch, and an Imperial Roll with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, ikura and jalapeno salsa. Other unique dishes include the Tori-Parm Noodles with egg noodles, chicken thigh, parmesan and aonori.
Signature Sashimi selections include the Toro Caviar with cucumber, teriyaki and truffle oil, alongside Salmon Aji Amarillo with passion fruit and scallion oil. Nigiri and sashimi offerings highlight seasonal selections such as saba (mackerel), uni (sea urchin) and hotate (scallop).
Hot dishes include the Pork Katsu Senbei with panko, shichimi and tonkatsu, the rich Lobster Tail Koganeyaki with chives and spicy aioli, and KATSUMI’s crispy house Gyoza with beef and cabbage. Vegetarian offerings, such as Gojo Mushrooms, featuring a five-mushroom medley sautéed in teriyaki, are woven throughout the menu.

Cocktails include the Matcha Mood with yuzu vodka, ceremonial matcha, strawberry, vanilla oat ice cream and cacao, the Nitoro Kohi Martini, a Japanese take on the espresso martini with vodka, nitro cold brew, shochu, Okinawan sugar and Benedictine, and the Anko-Iada, a blend of rum, mango, pineapple, adzuki bean and coconut milk. The sake selection shifts with the season, featuring rare bottles such as Amabuki “Strawberry” Junmai Ginjo Nama, Kiku-Masamune Junmai Taru, and Nanbu Bijin Tokubetsu Junmai.
