NEW SHOWS ANNOUNCED AT CITY WINERY WASHINGTON DC

Lori McKenna – Return to Bittertown (7/24), Vertical Horizon (8/29)

Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2019) — The summer schedule at City Winery Washington DC (1350 Okie St NE) continues to heat up with the addition of a slate of new shows just announced. American folk and country icon Lori McKenna brings the “Return to Bittertown” tour to the main stage. She is perhaps best known for her Grammy winning Best Country song “Girl Crush” which she co-wrote for Little Big Town. In August, local alternative rock sensation Vertical Horizon returns to DC for a new tour following their most recent album, The Lost Mile. Formed at Georgetown University in 1990, the band became part of the American rock identity in the 90s with the hit single “Everything You Want.”

Also, on sale this week are special performances by Southern rock and soul vocalist Nikki Hill, an entirely unique tribute to Bruce Springsteen performed entirely on the ukulele by Jim Boggia called Bruce Off Broadway, and jazz sensation Madeleine Peyroux, who returns to City Winery after two sold out shows in 2018. Tickets to new shows go on sale at 3pm Wednesday, May 22 to City Winery’s exclusive VinoFile™ members, and go on sale to the general public at 3pm on Friday, May 24 at www.citywinery.com/washingtondc where a full performance schedule is available.

This week City Winery plays host to a dynamic lineup that begins Tuesday evening with Phaze II featuring Avon Dews. The smooth and funky jazz produced by this local collective demonstrates the true breadth of the genre. On Wednesday, the JxJ Washington Jewish Music Festival returns to the main stage with Isle of Klezbos | Beregovski Suite, while Dog Days on the Wooftop, a free adoption event benefitting Humane Rescue Alliance, takes over the open-air roof deck. Down in the Wine Garden DC: IVY Jazz Night will feature The String Queens as part of the DC Jazz Festival programs. On Thursday the dance floor opens in the main venue for Faycez U Know, a local go-go act whose showmanship has been compared to the likes of The Rolling Stones.

On Friday the beats continue as the diverse and exciting all-female band Bela Dona returns to City Winery. In the Barrel Room restaurant, City Winery welcomes American Airlines for the next stop in its First Class International Pairing Series, focused on the wines and cuisine of Germany.  The Memorial Day holiday weekend continues on Saturday with Vino & Vinyasa, a morning of yoga, on the rooftop. That evening, vibraphonist and vocalist Roy Ayers takes the main stage for the first of two incredible evenings, while guests are invited to Cider! Drink & Learn, led by the beverage team on the first floor. The evening continues with a special late-night party hosted by WPFW 89.3 FM dubbed Daylight Anniversary XIII, hosted by DJ Divine. On Sunday, JxJ continues with Daniel Kahn and The Painted Bird, in the afternoon, followed by a standing room only show by local “hood rock” band Black Alley, which will continue into the evening.

City Winery’s first floor Barrel Room Restaurant & Wine Bar is available for pre or post-show dinner and drinks. Reservations can be made at www.citywinery.com/washingtondc/. Additionally, guests can experience a range of City Winery’s wines at the Tasting Bar, located in the entrance alcove.

All shows at City Winery start at 8pm unless otherwise noted, and City Winery’s website is updated weekly with special guest announcements and ticketing information. Valet parking is available during all City Winery hours of operation. In addition to 48-hour advance access to tickets, VinoFile™ members will also enjoy complimentary valet parking, access to exclusive events, hands-on opportunities to be involved with City Winery’s wine making process, discounted merchandise, waived ticket fees, and the ability to select preferred seats. VinoFile™ memberships can be purchased at City Winery’s website.
