New Wellness Studio Is Coming To Georgetown

A new kind of wellness experience awaits guests

WASHINGTON D.C.RM Balance, a new restorative wellness studio is set to open its doors next month in Georgetown. Founded by Regina McLinden – owner of RM Wellness and the only person under 30 to operate two brick-and-mortar businesses in the neighborhood – this meditation & movement studio combines traditional yoga methods with the background of bodywork as well as Pilates, sound baths and meditation.

RM Balance’s mission is to bridge the gap between private instruction and bustling yoga classes by offering intimate, small-group sessions. There is a maximum of 6-10 guests per session, depending on the class offered, allowing for personal attention with assistance through deep nervous system relaxation, mindful movement and stretches. Classes are thoughtfully designed to encourage a sense of support through the entire experience, as well as keeping assistance and adaptations top of mind to meet a range of mobility needs.

With McLinden’s background in spas and hospitality she aims to prioritize a holistic approach to wellness. With Bala props, complimentary snacks and beverages, extended Savasanas that may include bodywork, RM Balance delivers an elevated experience from start to finish. Lessons are spaced out so guests have 30 minutes after each session to stay for tea, discuss their practice with the instructor or try out complimentary additions such as lymphatic vibration plates, balance boards and acupressure mats. Unlike most studios, they will be handling all mat and prop cleanup to ensure peace of mind for guests as well as cleanliness standards.

The intimate studio will offer eight types of yoga classes, two mat Pilates as well as sound baths and meditation. The yoga classes range from traditional practices to unique options including bodywork that McLinden devised. Private instruction will also be offered for one-on-one classes, couples and groups.

Class highlights include:

  • Strong & Steady Flow: A gentle and mindful adaptation of Vinyasa yoga. Our strongest and most active class, but with emphasis on balance and breath over intensity and speed. This class will be taught with red light therapy at select times.

  • Bliss Bodywork Nidra: This “yogic sleep” class is a deep relaxation focused class that seeks to achieve a state between wakefulness and sleep, and is thus a great option for those who have trouble unwinding at the end of the day. Unlike meditation classes, this class encourages guests to lie on the mat instead of sitting up, and includes instructor contact and massage throughout the class. Mini whiteboards will be given during this class so guests can write areas of the body they’d like to focus on, and the instructor will know where to do compressions mid-session.

  • Adaptive Core Mat Pilates: A low-impact mat Pilates class that blends slow, controlled movements with the added challenge of Bala bangles, resistance bands, and Pilates balls. This class will be taught with red light therapy at select times.

  • Restorative Yoga: Our slowest and most gentle class, this highly prop-supported practice is dedicated to rest and nervous system regulation. In this class, guests will be guided into a series of fully supported poses held for several minutes, allowing the body and mind to soften gradually. The emphasis is on feeling supported and safe in one’s body, and to experience nourishing relaxation.

  • Harmonic Sound Bath: 60 minutes of meditative soundscape crafted by our resident sound healer. No movement or prior experience is required.
