Chance for Life Gives Back This Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

Alexandria nonprofit to hold promotions, events, and more throughout September

Alexandria, VA (August 5, 2019)—Alexandria-based nonprofit Chance for Life is excited to announce that the 15th Annual Chance for Life Poker Tournament & Taste Experience will return to MGM National Harbor on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Chance for Life has raised $6.5 million to date to combat pediatric cancer, donating 100% of its turnkey event’s net proceeds to Children’s National Health System and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. This September in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, Chance for Life has a number of ways for the public to get involved and join the fight against childhood cancer.

Shop to Give – ongoing throughout September 2019

Chance for Life has partnered with Knot Standard, a custom suits and menswear company, to gift a brand-new wardrobe to Rich Engler, father of CFL kid Luke Engler who passed away in 2018. Rich will visit the store and receive a new suit, blazer, and two dress shirts. Additionally, Knot Standard will donate a portion of sales across all markets throughout the month of September.

In honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, guests that visit Grazie Grazie (85 District Square SW) at The Wharf can add a dollar donation for Chance for Life to every purchase in the month of September. Grazie Grazie Owner Casey Patten will return as the 2020 Culinary Chair for the 15th Annual Chance for Life Gala and has already onboarded Yume Sushi, Chiko, The Salt Line, and Chicken + Whiskey, among other restaurants to offer dynamic cuisine at next year’s event.

This September, Harris Teeter and Constellation Brands will each donate a dollar from select products to Chance for Life in support of pediatric cancer research (up to $50,000 total).

Donate $25 to Chance for Life by texting CFLSEP to 55588 in the month of September and receive a free car wash at any Mr. Wash Car Wash Location redeemable at seven locations in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Each dollar donated will be matched up to $25,000 by the Robert I. Schattner Foundation.

Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month Poker Tournament – Sunday, September 29

Chance for Life will host its first annual Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month Poker Tournament at Union District Oyster Bar & Lounge on Sunday, September 29. The tournament will last from 3:30pm to 6:30pm with an after party until 9:30pm. Guests are invited to purchase their poker seat or after party ticket at poker4research.givesmart.com. All net proceeds will benefit Chance for Life, furthering its pediatric cancer research initiatives and clinical trials.

The local network working for a worldwide cure supports life-saving cancer research and treatment. Earlier this year, it was announced that the first Chance for Life funded clinical trial reached FDA approval and is enrolling patients. Text CFLSEP to 555888 today to join the fight and give children a Chance of Life. About Chance for Life

Less than 4% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year. Chance for Life takes direct aim to fill this gap, providing 100% of net proceeds to help fund vital pediatric cancer research at Children’s National Health System and through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The non-profit’s major charity poker tournament and taste experience has historically raised over $6.5 million to directly support those on the forefront of local cancer research and care.
